GETTING STARTED
Notes on getting started: If you have not already reached out to Zen Bu Kan (zenbukandojo@gmail.com), then please do so. You may come visit us at your leisure without notice but we may serve you better if we know you are coming. You are welcome to come and observe classes and ask questions.
BEGINNERS DAY: The LAST Saturday of each month is our day when we encourage first timers to give our classes a try when they are ready to get on the floor and get a sword in hand. We do encourage you to read through the FAQ. You will be asked to create an account and sign up for the “Temporary FREE Gymdesk” for your first time joining us on the dojo floor.
After your first time on the floor, if you wish to continue, you will be asked to fill out a “Beginner’s Try It Out Package”. Note that your 1 month discounted trial starts on the date of purchase and ends 1 month later on the most applicable date (see pricing plans below).
Purchase of equipment (swords & uniform) is not necessary and is, in fact, not recommended until you have completed a handful of classes.
There are a few short forms that you must complete prior to your physical participation in class. These will be present when you sign up via the link.
For your first few classes, do arrive early so that we may give you specific help with answering your questions and doing our best to ensure you get the best start at Zen Bu Kan.
BEGINNERS DAY LAST SATURDAY EVERY MONTH!

Membership Consideration
During the 1 month “Try It Out” & “First Year” Package, you will get the chance to consider if Japanese Swordsmanship & Zen Bu Kan is right for you. Instructors at Zen Bu Kan will also be determining if you are a good fit for the dojo. Zen Bu Kan is very accepting of people of many types and abilities. Yet we are looking for students with an enthusiasm for training and an ability to be considerate to others. If yourself and Zen Bu Kan are a good fit for each other, you will be asked to become a member (at the end of your trial month) in order to continue your training.

REGIONAL & NATIONAL FEDERATION MEMBERSHIP
IMPORTANT: Membership in Regional & National Federations is a requirement of Zen Bu Kan membership. These are annual fees that are not a direct part of Zen Bu Kan. They are fully separate and not associated with Zen Bu Kan directly. Fees are determined by those organizations. Membership in the federations does come with several benefits that make membership fully worth it and necessary. Federation membership drives are typically collected in March. Total initial membership cost are typically around $75 the first year and $50 in subsequent years. Zen Bu Kan will guide members through the sign up process each year.
Federations are a part of upholding the quality of Japanese sword arts in a constant manner throughout the country and ensure our connections with Japan. Only through our federations do we enjoy the quality of instructors within the United States and Japan.
